Great BBQ in Spain? Fuego Bar BBQ in Denia is the place!

Where does a person get great BBQ in Spain? We love Spanish food, yet still crave some of our favorite tastes from the USA, like BBQ. After a year living in Spain, only one restaurant has proven to stand the test of our tastes and fortunately, it’s in our Spain home-base, Denia. Not only does Fuego Bar BBQ taste great, they do a fantastic job at a variety of things that culminate to give a great dinning experience.

Great BBQ in Spain Thanks to Quality of Ingredients

The biggest thing we’re impressed with at Fuego is that they use organic ingredients and meats. For us, that’s really important. We’re not super strict about having to eat organic, especially when we eat out. But when a restaurant is committed to that quality of food and for creating great tastes, we notice the difference and choose to go there above other places. Eating there leaves us feeling good, not heavy and drowsy with over-rich, nasty oils and sugary sauces. After all, food is meant to help us feel good!

Their speciality is the roast chicken and they also feature beef, pork, seafood, and even lamb. Along with BBQ, finding good hamburgers can be tricky in Spain. But they do that great too! We love the hamburgers at Fuego and they’re all made with ecologic (organic) meat from Spain.

Great BBQ in Spain with Great Prices + Free Tapas

You may be thinking, ‘ah man…organic is so expensive though…’. Not in this case. Now, understand where we’re coming from – to us it’s worth paying more for good, healthy food. Yet having it be affordable is even better, because we’ll eat there more and take friends there, which we’ve done plenty of times already.

So let’s be clear here – the prices are downright awesome!  The portion sizes are great all across the board – for their tapas (starters), hamburgers and entrees. You can easily go in and share starters and even one of the entrees between two people and be set. Or if you’re really hungry, like our guests Brendan and Chance were, you can get your own American Angus premium-cut steak entree (their special meat dish of that day) – they really loved that and we were lucky to get even a taste before it was all gone.

True to the Spanish food culture of tapas, they give you a free tapa with any beer, wine or cocktail order. We have noticed that the size and type of tapa seems to vary according to the time of day, but we haven’t quite figured out the schedule yet – maybe they give the more generous tapa portions in between the major meal times…? Not sure yet, but either way, it’s always good! When we took our friend Chance (who was visiting from the US), he was blown away because he and Eric each ordered a beer and they brought out a free tapa of 6 BBQ wings. They’re served piping hot and fresh from the grill – so delicious!

Wondering how much the beers and wines are? The most expensive beer is just under 4 Euros and we think a glass of the house wine can be between 2.50 and 3 Euros each.Yeah…even with the dollar to Euro exchange rate, that’s practically less than half the price of what a good wine or beer cost in major cities in the US, especially our hometown of Denver nowadays. And these are good quality too, not just cheap, lousy swill. We usually get beer when we go there because they feature a craft brew made in Madrid that we don’t find anywhere else in Denia – Brabante Cervezas.

Great BBQ in Spain + Awesome People and Service

If you’ve read our stories about food before, you know that a great food experience means there’s awesome people and service involved. For us, there just can’t be one without the other. There’s a great vibe at Fuego Bar BBQ. And yes, a lot of it has to do with their set-up and the environment as well.

The Lay of the Land

The outdoor patio area is a large, lovely space with canvas canopy and ideally located just across from the Marina here in enchanting Denia. Their indoor area has two floors, with great glimpses of the nearby mountain of Montgo and a stunning panoramic view of it from the upstairs. What’s really great is that the bottom floor of their indoor space has floor-to-ceiling glass doors that when the weather is nice and warm, fold back to create a more outdoor terrace feel. Overall, there’s a mod-industrial, mountain-cabin kind of style to it that reminds us of cool lofts in downtown Denver. The bar is great and you can see them cooking right there, with the bright flames of the Mibrasa grill bringing your food to authentically fired, yummy-charcoal deliciousness! Oh my…we’re getting hungry just reminiscing about it!

Making Friends + Enjoying BBQ

Oh yeah…we are talking about the amazing people and service. Got a little sidetracked with the eye-catching interior design, but at least now you know it’s a great place to take a date or enjoy great ambience.

Well, you already know from us that the people are great, but why, right? For starters, their skilled and good at what they do. From what we’ve experienced, their servers know more than one language and make effort to speak in your language. It helps too that the menus are provided in Spanish and English. They check in on you regularly and notice when you’re low on beer or wine, so that you can ‘re-fill’ before waiting around with an empty glass for a while (don’t you hate when those yummy pieces of steak are getting cold cause you want more red wine to enjoy it with!?!).

It’s not just about work there – the people are personable and fun and friendly. For example, we got to know Michelle because she was just so dog-gone sweet and helpful. Of course, our friend Chance and my younger brother Brendan (Amalia speaking here), notice that she’s gorgeous too! Too bad both of them were too shy to tell her themselves. Okay, it’s not just pretty ladies that we’re all about. The manager is there a lot and he’s super friendly and always asking how we are. It certainly is a place where people recognize you and appreciate you coming back.

And yep…along with all that great personality, they show serious skill while providing great service. And it’s not like it’s easy to serve at Fuego. Many of the dishes come out on these awesome cast-iron skillet platters that are sizzling hot. Carrying those is not an easy job – they’re quite heavy and spitting out heat. Yet they serve it up so well. We’re always impressed.

Overall, we consistently feel a great energy among the staff there. They work together and seem to genuinely enjoy being around each other. When people work together like that, we think it translates to how they are with us as customers and it sets a great vibe in the dinning space.

After multiple experiences at Fuego Bar BBQ, we consider it to be one of our favorite restaurants in Denia that we love to frequent. It’s one of those places that comes to your mind often and has you craving their specialities to the point that you go back for more.
