Video of Sailing the Costa Blanca with Punta Estrella

This summer we enjoyed sailing the Costa Blanca from Denia, Spain. We shot some amazing footage aboard the sailboat Lady Maia and thoroughly enjoyed this gorgeous coast of the Mediterranean Sea. This short video was shot with the help of our American, Spanish and Norwegian friends and compiled together from our fantastic day trip with Punta Estrella Charters.

Sailing the Costa Blanca with Our Crew

What made the trip great was the group of friends and charter company who made up our crew. We were an international mix of Spanish, American and even British and Norwegian. Some of us had more experience sailing than others and, of course, our skipper was the pro among us and our captain for the day’s excursion.

Creating this video is our heartfelt thanks to these wonderful friends: Chance Galentin, Steffen Aas, Juan Carlos Esteve Vives, and Amalia’s brother, Brendan Maloney. A very special thanks goes to our new friends and fellow Denia-locals at Punta Estrella Charters. Owners Sam White and Anna Spencer-White made our trip fantastic with their coordinating of details, their lovely boat Lady Maia, and Sam’s excellent sailing skills and personable nature.

Having Sam as our Skipper was a great addition to our group of friends. He treated us to local stories and insight, as well as sailing us to the prime coves for the best waters. To top it all off, their full-day sailing trip comes complete with beverages and a gourmet tapas lunch that blew our socks off – it was a delicious spread of fresh Spanish foods we love and that were great for being on the sea.

Why Sailing the Costa Blanca is Spectacular

One of our dreams is to have our own sailboat and spend as much time as we want living on it and sailing around the Mediterranean Sea. Over the past year, we’ve enjoyed more and more sailing trips that are taking us further along that path. This full day trip with Punta Estrella was particularly inspiring and enjoyable for us for several reasons.

It was with sailing charter company Punta Estrella Charters, who are based out of Denia, Spain. Being based out of Denia is important for us, because its two new marinas are one of the biggest reasons why we chose to live there. It also introduced us to the Costa Blanca from the water. We got to learn about what a pristine and gorgeous part of Spain’s Mediterranean Coast it is to sail and we love it! Another big benefit is that we learned more from Punta Estrella about longer trips they do that sail to the stunningly beautiful nearby islands of Ibiza, Formentera, and others.

When it comes to the nature of this part of Spain’s Mediterranean Coast, the Costa Blanca provides stunning views all along the way. The shores are beautifully rugged with dramatic cliffs that rise up from the waters. Along the steep walls are all sorts of birds making their homes in the holes that pepper the sandy rock walls. Various grand homes grace the ridge tops, some traditionally Spanish and others modern. There are those that are perched stunningly along steep edges and drop-offs and then others tucked a little further back and in the villages we passed of Javea and others.

We could go on and on about the beauties and joys of this trip. But watching the video will capture it so much more vividly for you. Of course, there’s nothing like the real thing – feeling the warm, bright sun and the soft, fresh breeze; rising with the waves and rushing forward with the sails catching the wind, and that brisk, cool cleansing when you dive to immerse yourself into those intoxicating turquoise-blue waters…Make sure to go sailing here soon!
