by Last updated Aug 2, 2023 | Published on Jun 8, 2023Europe, France, Travel Itineraries

My first time in Provence, all my senses fell in love with the iconic countryside full of lavender fields and fairytale chateaus. Not to mention the gastronomical delights that seduced my taste buds at every meal. I experienced a relaxing time thanks to a marvelous Provence itinerary that introduced me to the Luberon area and its Provencal treasures.

Imagine breathing in the lavender-fresh air while sipping Rosé amidst 17th-century buildings embraced by ivy and drinking in the enchanting sight of verdant hills and a rising mountain, all in one area. Enjoy that and more with this 4-day Provence itinerary for relaxing in the Luberon countryside.

Day 1 of Provence Itinerary – Arriving in the Luberon

For exploring Southern France, stay in the privileged location of the 5-star Hotel Crillon le Brave in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and the Luberon, a massif that is known as the heart of Provence.

The hotel is perched on top of a hill that affords expansive vistas of verdant fields against the backdrop of the regal Mont Ventoux. The tiny village primarily consists of the hotel’s twelve traditional 17th and 18th-century houses nestled together and draped in green ivy. Every nook and cranny evokes delight with the natural adornment of trellising flowers, blond Crillon stone, and pink-hued roof tiles.

Settle Into Your Accommodations at Hotel Crillon le Brave

After checking in, settle into one of 16 rooms and 18 suites, each perfect for feeling relaxed in the luxuriously cozy spaces. Exquisitely designed by decorator Charles Zana, think iconic red tiled floors, white linen drapes, and elegant furniture and decor for creating the perfect space to rest and relax.

From the shutter-adorned windows, gaze out at views of the Provence countryside below. Once you’re settled in, stroll the grounds and discover its winding, stone-paved passageways and various tucked away gardens and seating areas, perfect for a romantic rendezvous.

Take a Refreshing Swim in the Pool

Really drink in your surroundings and allow yourself to relax by the private pool with panoramic views. Take a swim in the turquoise waters and allow yourself a restful nap on any of the plush sunbeds and lounge chairs.

Play Pétanque & Sip on Pastis

In one of the charming gardens, try your hand at the beloved game in Provence, Pétanque. This boules sport of rolling heavy balls toward a target ball, is a long-time favorite among the locals. To really experience it like a local, sip on the traditional French apéritif of Pastis while playing. This anise-flavored spirit is commonly produced in the south of France and is typically served as a pre-dinner drink.

Enjoy Dinner with a View at La Table du Ventoux

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, enjoy a delightful dinner on the terrace of one of two restaurants, the bistronomic La Table du Ventoux. Take in Mont Ventoux bathed in a pastel sunset fading into a glorious night sky, as you savor the heavenly local wines and pleasurable distinct tastes of the Provence region.

Start with a Traditional Provence Breakfast

Start your morning with a sumptuous breakfast and dazzling views at the hotel’s restaurant, La Table du Ventoux. The traditional, freshly baked pastries, quiches, and breads, along with vibrant fruits, will delight and energize you for the day ahead. And of course gluten-free and lactose-free specialities are also provided.

Tour of the Heart of Provence on an Electric Bike Ride

Set off on a Provence electric bike ride with local tour company Ride & More. You can choose between private self-guided or guided tours that help you discover this area of Luberon, located in Vaucluse and known as the heart of Provence. Your ride will be a Provence-dream come true as you ride on expertly picked backroads through old world villages and lavender fields, past wineries and local farms.

Savor Lunch with a Chateau Picnic & Wine Tasting

Of course, no bike ride in Provence is complete without visiting a Chateau and winery. Follow your Provence bike ride itinerary through Medieval villages to the enchanting winery Chateau Pesquié. You will fall in love and not want to leave this gorgeous family wine estate in the southeastern Rhône Valley. Relax at a picnic table in the shade of 300-year old plane trees on the chateau’s lawn to feed your bike-ride-induced hunger with their Winegrower’s Picnic of delicious, local goods.

Then go on a guided tour of the winemaking facilities, accompanied by a wine tasting. If you need help taking purchases back to your hotel, which is likely, Chateau Pesquié can arrange with Hotel Crillon Le Brave to have them delivered to your room so you can enjoy the remainder of your bike ride unencumbered.

Indulge in Spa & Wellness Treatments at Spa des Écuries

After a day outdoors, treat yourself to the gorgeous Spa des Écuries at Hotel Crillon le Brave, where you can nurture your wellbeing with various facial, body, and beauty treatments. In the tranquil, old-world setting, you’ll be pampered with top-of-the-line products like organic brand Tata Harper and probiotic-based skincare, AIME.

Before dinner, enjoy a cocktail or the traditional Provence drink of Pastis, in the bar, located in the oldest house of the hotel.

Delight Your Senses with a Special Dinner in Gastronomic Restaurant La Madeleine

After a full day, you don’t have to go far for a special dinner. As the second restaurant in the Hotel Crillon Le Brave, La Madeleine provides gourmet, sophisticated dishes in a charming setting. Chef Adrien Brunet, a student of Meilleur Ouvrier de France Jean Luc Rocha, features traditional cuisine made with locally sourced and seasonal products. You’ll think that you’ve died and gone to foodie heaven!

Accompanied by a live band, the delectable buffet of local products will delight you with grilled fish, marinated meats, regional cheeses, fresh salads, desserts and more.

Experience a Vintage Car Outing of Provence Lavender Fields

Can you picture it? Drive along the country roads of Provence in a vintage car to take in the smell and sight of the lavender fields. With a tailored driving route and directions, you’ll be sure to not miss this colorful Provence treasure.

TRAVEL ADVISOR INSIGHT

For enjoying the famed lavender fields in bloom, plan your visit to Provence sometime from mid-June to mid-July. In early to mid-July is when most fields peak. The higher the altitude of the field, the later the flowers will bloom.

Explore a Provencal Market for Antiques & Gastronomy

Continuing your vintage car outing, enjoy the beautiful drive to the Venice-like town of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, located on the River Sorgue. Its renowned market has over 250 stalls where you can peruse and shop the Provencal crafts and local gastronomy. It’s the perfect place to buy gifts to take home and to taste the area’s food. The market takes place in the town center, year-round on Thursdays and Sundays, with an incredible floating market on the first Sunday of August.

Dine on Local Provençal Cuisine

To enjoy your last night, have dinner at either of the two superb restaurants in the Hotel Crillon Le Brave, or ask their concierge to recommend another local restaurant. This meal will be perfect for trying the delicious Provençal dishes you have not had yet, or to repeat the ones that you’ve loved. Hopefully, it will be a bit of both.

Day 4 of Provence Itinerary – Saying ‘Until Next Time’ to Provence

Perhaps this is your last day in Provence, or in this Luberon area. Take in the luxurious comforts of your room or suite before having breakfast at La Table du Ventoux. Then enjoy a walk around the small village, making sure to visit the neighboring Chapelle Notre-Dame des Accès right next door to the hotel.

One of the many perks that I can get for you when booking the Hotel Crillon Le Brave, is a late check-out (based on availability). Remember to visit the hotel’s gift shop for any local products that make wonderful gifts and keepsakes from your trip.
